COVID-19 Home Based Management in Poor Resources Settings: A Case of Rwanda

COVID-19 is an infectious disease and can be transmitted from humans to through infected air droplets during coughing sneezing or though contact with contaminated hands surfaces. By March 01st 2021, World Health Organization (WHO) reported 113,820,168 confirmed cases globally, among them 2,851,062 are the continent of Africa. Rwanda 18,850 cases, 261 deaths. Healthcare systems have been burdened by huge number cases. Home-Based Care (HBC) was introduced as alternative option control pandemic specifically in poor resource countries. Since December 2020, case death continued rise Rwanda. To handle this issue, government started promoting home-based care for asymptomatic people patients mild symptoms they would followed up trained Community Workers (CHW). The increased positive attributed inadequate compliance Infectious Prevention Control (IPC) measures, low socio-economic status, inability self-isolate due having small shared living rooms, food insecurity, lack familiarity disinfection procedures home sanitation, access water, weak policy regulating HBC, insufficient PPEs CHWs, CHW fear getting level community awareness perception, comorbidities, communication follow HBC patients. Overall, we concluded that has very crucial management it relieved burden on health facilities, but more improvement needed properly applicable settings.
